About the collection

The inspiration for Joot`s ‘The Forgotten Language of the Cold’ comes from her Nordic heritage and the respect for the wilderness she grew up with. The collection deals with our connection with nature and the ways in which we are losing that connection. Humans are portrayed as part of nature, not separate from it; it’s about the theatre of life and the masks we wear to hide our true nature and deceive others depending on our moods and purposes.

About the artist

Joot is a Finnish born artist currently living and working in Brighton, UK. Her emotionally evocative work tells stories of the isolation and defiance that is part of her Finnish heritage. Much of her work deals with our relationship with nature, the theatre of life and the hidden strength of individuals.

Joot studied BA Illustration at the Arts University College Bournemouth. After graduation she immediately began working in earnest on her own projects, exhibiting both in the UK and in her native Finland. Joot’s work has featured in publications in several countries and her work and prints have sold worldwide.
